Women vs. Clothes
Why do we hold on to clothes that we don’t love?
I go through my closet very frequently, I purge, I sort, I donate. Yet, this last time I went through I found that I was still holding on to a few items that really serve me no purpose. They don’t fit me anymore! I thought to myself, “Why am I still holding on to these? Why is it a struggle to let it go?”
Clothing can hold sentimental attachment. Perhaps it reminds us of a happy time in our life. Or maybe we used to feel like a million bucks when we wore that dress. Now though…the dress has some wear and tear, or that pair of pants is just too tight. Why do we as women tend to have all these different sizes in our closet?
Sometimes our hope is that one day we will lose the weight and then we can fit into that dress again. How does that dress make you feel though every time you come across it in your closet? Does it motivate you to lose the weight? No! If anything it just makes you feel self-conscious and the rest of the day you’re feeling down and you can’t put your finger on why. Let it go! That piece of clothing has served it’s purpose in your life so it’s ok to let it go. Getting rid of it doesn’t mean you have given up on your goal of losing weight and getting healthy, but it does mean that you have given yourself permission to love YOU, no matter what size you are.
